Global Debut and Testing in India

BYD India has been spotted testing the Atto 2 electric SUV on public roads, hinting that its launch could be just around the corner. The Atto 2, which is set to be positioned below the larger Atto 3, made its global debut earlier this year at the Brussels Motor Show and has since been making waves in international markets.

Innovative Design and Features

This smaller, more compact SUV is built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 and features the brand’s Blade Battery along with CTB (Cell-to-Body) construction. What sets this apart is its innovative battery integration, which embeds the lithium iron phosphate battery into the chassis itself. This not only boosts the vehicle’s structural strength but also optimizes cabin space while avoiding the use of cobalt or nickel materials.

Compact Size and Tech-Focused Cabin

At a size of 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, the Atto 2 is noticeably more compact than its bigger sibling, the Atto 3. It is 145 mm shorter and 45 mm narrower, making it a great option for urban commuters. The vehicle also features a 2,620 mm wheelbase, which supports its angular design and modern lighting signatures. Inside, the Atto 2 offers a sleek, minimalistic cabin with a 12.3-inch vertically oriented touchscreen that handles media and vehicle functions. It also supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Performance, Range, and Safety
Under the hood, the Atto 2 packs a 130 kW front-mounted motor powered by a 45.1 kWh Blade battery. With this setup, it promises a claimed WLTP-certified driving range of 312 km in the standard configuration. While a longer-range version is expected in international markets, details about its output and pricing remain unclear. On the safety front, the Atto 2 is equipped with a surround-view camera, multiple airbags, and a suite of active driver assistance features.

Competition and Pricing in India
In India, the Atto 3 is currently priced between Rs. 24.99 lakh and Rs. 33.99 lakh (ex-showroom), so the Atto 2 could potentially fall in a more affordable price range. If launched here, it’s likely to compete with electric SUVs like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra XEV 9e, BE 6, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, and the Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV, which also made its debut at the Brussels Motor Show.

The Atto 2’s compact size and modern features could make it a strong contender in India’s growing electric vehicle market. Let’s wait and see when it hits Indian roads!
