Mahindra is gearing up to make a bold move into the electric SUV space, and the legendary Thar is at the center of it. The all-new Mahindra Thar Electric is expected to hit the roads in production form as early as 2026, and it’s likely to offer major upgrades over the current petrol and diesel models.

Big Reveal Coming This Independence Day

Mahindra vision t

Mark your calendars! Mahindra is set to unveil a brand-new concept called Vision.T on August 15, 2025, during its annual Independence Day event in Mumbai. This event has become the brand’s go-to platform for showcasing future products and tech innovations — and this year promises to be no different.

From what’s been teased so far, the new concept shares a lot of its DNA with the Thar.e concept — a bold, boxy, five-door electric off-roader that first made headlines over two years ago. That earlier version was built on a specially adapted INGLO P1 platform, which is tailored for off-road EVs.

What the Teasers Reveal

The Vision.T seems to be an evolution of the Thar.e, with an updated design and perhaps even more serious off-road credentials. It shows Mahindra’s growing focus on crafting electric SUVs that look rugged and modern, all while keeping their go-anywhere DNA intact.

But the big reveal won’t stop at just one model. Under its Freedom_NU showcase, Mahindra will also pull the covers off multiple concept vehicles and introduce an all-new vehicle architecture aimed at shaping its electric future.

More Than Just a New Look

The new platform Mahindra is working on appears to allow for a longer wheelbase and higher ground clearance — important features for a proper off-roader. While many global carmakers continue to use body-on-frame construction for their electric SUVs, it’s still unclear whether Mahindra will stick with tradition or go for something completely new.

What Else is in the Pipeline

Alongside the Thar Electric, Mahindra has a few more electric vehicles up its sleeve:

  • An electric compact SUV based on the XUV 3XO
  • The upcoming XEV 7e, which will share its platform with the earlier XUV.e8 concept
  • And possibly some hybrid options in the works for its premium SUV range

So if you’re a fan of the Thar or just curious about India’s EV future, Mahindra’s August 15 event is definitely one to watch. The electric Thar could be a game-changer — and this might just be the beginning.
